The Loring Fund is designed to benefit congregations by supporting clergy in the Diocese of Maine. This support is made possible by providing funds for continuing education and sabbatical programs which enhance a clergy person’s preaching, pastoral care, counseling, and leadership roles.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Here are a few basic guidelines. Please download the application and guidelines to read in-full.

  • Grants are for continuing education or sabbatical for canonically resident clergy (priests and deacons) of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine and non-canonically resident, but licensed clergy, who are serving in the diocese.
  • Pending the availability of funds, the yearly limit on grant monies awarded to an individual is $3000, with a cap of no more than $7500 over five years.
  • Clergy are encouraged to apply well in advance of funding deadlines: 30 days in advance of continuing education requests and at least 60 days advance request for sabbaticals*.
  • The committee will not accept applications for retroactive funding.
  • Grant recipients are required to submit a short, written evaluation of the activity or project for the committee’s review (within 30 days of completion of the activity).
