Episcopal Relief and Development in the Diocese of Maine

Episcopal Relief and Development has been the compassionate response of the Church responding to human suffering around the world for many years.

ERD serves not only to help people in their time of greatest need but also to stand with them as they rebuild their lives and communities. It does this in well-defined and effective ways:

Working with Anglican and ecumenical partners, ERD responds immediately to civil and natural disasters, delivering medicine, blankets, food, clean water and other necessities. Then, ERD works with communities to secure their food supplies-offering agricultural training, seed and farm tools, healthy animals to feed families and provide income, and job training and micro-credit loans to start small businesses.

In tandem with securing a nutritious food supply, ERD introduces primary health initiatives-counseling and caring for traumatized individuals, providing access to drinkable water and sanitation systems, and by targeting diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria, especially in hardest-hit areas of Latin America and Africa
