SUMMARY:Deacons Day in the Diocese of Maine
DESCRIPTION:Deacons Day in the Diocese of Maine\nLast Sunday each June \nResolution 3 adopted by diocesan convention set aside the last Sunday in June for deacons in the diocese to travel to a parish that doesn’t currently have a deacon assigned to preach and teach about the diaconate. \nHere’s the resolution that passed: \nRESOLVED that the 203rd Diocesan Convention affirms the mission of the Diaconate and calls the Church to seek out persons within the Church who may have a call to be a Deacon. Therefore\, the Diocese is to set aside a Deacon Day to honor and raise awareness of the calling and mission of Deacons in the Church and World; and be it further \nRESOLVED that the 203rd Convention set aside the last Sunday in June as a Diocesan Deacon Day for the Diocese in which: \nDeacons may travel to a parish that does not have a current Deacon placement to be the Deacon in the Liturgy\, to preach and teach about the Diaconate and the Calling of a Deacon. \nThat Deacons will coordinate with the Bishop’s office to schedule the visit. When a Deacon cannot be present on Deacon Day\, Deacons will work with the Bishop’s office to make a visitation at an alternate date. \nThat the Diocese will intentionally pray for the ministry of Deacons\, for those in formation to be Deacons\, and will pray for persons to be raised up for discernment to the Diaconate. \nHow will parishes participate? \nParishes without a deacon can arrange for a deacon come visit them on the last Sunday of June to preach and teach about the diaconate. \nEveryone may use these special Prayers for Deacons’ Day written by the Rev. Stephanie Batterman\, Deacon at Grace Church\, Bath in 2023. \nIf you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email Archdeacon Aaron Perkins. \n

SUMMARY:Provincial Youth Climate Justice Event
DESCRIPTION:What: This is an event for middle and high school-age Episcopalians to come to Maine to share in the beauty of Creation\, and to work with faith leaders to learn about how to protect and advocate for it! \nThe triennial Episcopal Youth Event is not being held in 2026\, so we are offering a way for our youth to come together\, build community\, and learn about protecting our earth —in the beautiful part of the world called Downeast Maine! \nWe will engage in national science-standard-aligned\, hands-on science programming through the National Park Service rangers\, work with our own Public Policy Director John Hennessey\, hear from Wabanaki neighbors about Indigenous stewardship at Acadia\, and more. \nWho: Middle and high school youth (there will be two tracks) along with their chaperone(s). (In other words\, we will provide the lodging\, food\, and programming and you’ll provide the kids\, transportation\, and supervision.) \nWhen: June 29-July 2\, 2026 \nWhere: The Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park in Maine.\nGroups will stay in the bunkhouse on campus\, and there will be programming during the days both on- and off-campus if groups would like. \nHow: Register here. \nPlease email Director of Faith Formation Emily Keniston if you have questions.
