SUMMARY:Dismantling Racism Trainings at the Center for Racial Healing
DESCRIPTION:Dismantling Racism training seeks to increase “racial understanding\, healing and reconciliation.” It is offered several times throughout the year and is required for all parish clergy and all lay leaders\, including vestry members. Trainings are offered by the Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing. \nTraining runs for one day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST.  Each class is limited to 25 people. No more than six people from the same parish/organization can take the class on the same day. \nAll of the Dismantling Racism Training class for this year are on Zoom. \n​\nAvailable class dates are listed below. You can select your desired class date after you click to register. \nFor those outside of or not affiliated with the Diocese of Atlanta\, there is a $50.00 fee per person for the class. SUMMARY:The Gatherings: A Province I Book Study
DESCRIPTION:Province 1 Indigenous Justice Network and the Episcopal Diocese of Maine Committee on Indian Relations invite you to a series of book studies beginning with a discussion of The Gatherings: Reimagining Indigenous-Settler Relationships by Shirley N. Hager and Mawopiyane (University of Toronto Press\, 2021)\, on Wednesday\, September 13\, 7:00-8:15 p.m. on Zoom. Co-authors Rev. Shirley Bowen of the Diocese of Maine and Shirley Hager of the Friends (Quakers) Committee on Maine Public Policy will join the conversation. \nThe Gatherings shows how Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples can come together to create meaningful and lasting relationships. Indigenous and non-Indigenous people participated in a series of long weekend gatherings over several years\, in an Indigenous-led traditional Council format. Assumptions were challenged\, perspectives upended\, stereotypes shattered\, and friendships formed that have lasted many years. Seven Indigenous and seven non-Indigenous authors\, collectively Mawopiyane (a Passamaquoddy word that translates “Let us sit together”)\, share their experiences of the gatherings in their own words. \nPlease note that everyone is welcome whether or not you have read the book in advance of the event! \nTo register for this book study\, please click here. \nThe Committee on Indian Relations (CIR) sent a copy of The Gatherings to each of the parishes in Maine in September 2022\, purchased with a Diocesan Wolf Fund grant. If you wish to participate in the book study of The Gatherings\, and you are unable to access the copy sent to your parish\, CIR also has a small number of copies of The Gatherings on hand. To receive one of these copies\, please send your request to John Maddaus with your name\, parish\, and personal regular mail address at your earliest convenience. SUMMARY:Godly Play "Taste and See" Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a “Taste and See” opportunity on Saturday\, September 30th\, from 9 am to 3 pm\, with Godly Play trainer\, Nancy St. John. The morning will be spent building the circle and participating in a full Godly Play Session\, with time to wonder and respond. Attendees will then have time to reflect and enjoy a lunch. The afternoon will continue on for program volunteers and leaders in order to dive in deeper. Participants will learn the roles of storyteller and doorperson\, how to set up the circle for success\, and how to facilitate the “wondering” that anchors Godly Play.
