SUMMARY:Understanding the Community and Economic Potential of Tribal Sovereignty
DESCRIPTION:Self-determination through tribal self-government has led to remarkable economic growth across many Tribal nations situated in Indian Country. However\, unique to Maine\, the federal Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act of 1980 (MICSA) empowers the state government to block the applicability of federal Indian policy in Maine. As a result\, the development of the Wabanaki Nations’ economies and governmental capacities have been stunted – impacting economic and social progress for both native and non-native citizens alike. \nJoin us as Professor Joe Kalt\, co-director of the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government\, discusses the results of the Project’s recent study and shares why there is “nowhere to go but up” for Wabanaki Nations. \nThis conversation is offered in partnership with the Wabanaki Alliance and co-sponsored other local organizations including our Committee on Indian Relations. \nRegister on Zoom. \nRead the report here. \n \n

SUMMARY:Diocesan Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:You are invited! \nWe all know that our Prayer Book provides a clear statement about the mission God gives us: to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (p. 855). The Prayer Book states that we pursue this mission through prayer\, worship\, proclaiming the Gospel\, and promoting justice\, peace\, and love. \nHow can we set a course for engaging with God in this big\, bold mission? \nSince each of our faith communities is an outpost for proclaiming the Gospel\, how can we work together\, throughout our sixteen counties\, to say more about who we are\, why we’re here\, and what we’re doing about it? \nYour wisdom and perspective is necessary for us to set the course\, and we will have clearer answers to “who are we?” and “why are we here?” and “what are we doing about it?” for being together to listen and to speak. Will you be part of this work? \n
