SUMMARY:Music of the Holocaust Author Lecture and Recital
DESCRIPTION:This free event includes a lecture by Dr. Susan Eischeid\, professor of oboe at Valdosta State University (Georgia) and noted scholar\, who will discuss her new book\, “Mistress of Life and Death: The Dark Journey of Maria Mandl\, Head Overseer of the Women’s Camp at Auschwitz.” The lecture will be followed by a recital\, “Courage\, Resilience\, and Artistry: Music of the Holocaust\,” presented by the cathedral’s Canon for Liturgy and Music\, Christian M. Clough\, baritone; Susan Storey Frank\, soprano; James Kennerley\, piano; and Kathleen McNerney\, oboe. \n“We see May 13th as an opportunity to gather to reflect on past\, present\, and all-too-possible future anti-semitism in Maine and across the nation and indeed\, the world over. An opportunity to reflect and talk and pray together\, made more palpable by the power of music\,” says Maine composer Sara Lambert Bloom\, who taught Eiescheid at the Cincinnati Conservatory. \nLearn more about the author and the book here.
