DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 5\, 2022\n11:00am—1:00pm\nUnitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick\nHybrid Event: In person at 1 Middle Street\, Brunswick or Online via Facebook Live\nRegistration is free\, with an option to donate \nFrom the Hebrew prophet\, Jeremiah\, to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, to New York Times columnist ZZ Packer\, voices from the margins have warned of the harm done to them when those who benefit from the status quo call for the false “peace” of a polite civility of manners\, rather than a civility of morals that obligates us to interrogate what it means to keep the peace and at what cost. \nJoin the Maine Council of Churches and keynote speaker Dustin Ward for this interactive opportunity to explore the moral and theological dimension of our call to disrupt the status quo when there is no peace for those oppressed by unjust systems and attitudes. Whether you attend in person or join online\, this program will include time in breakout small groups considering how what we’ve heard inspires us to take action in building a culture of justice\, compassion and peace. \nRegister here \nABOUT DUSTIN WARD\nDustin grew up in Presque Isle\, Maine\, and holds a B.S. in Political Science from USM\, and an M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.  After the murder of George Floyd in 2020\, Dustin left the parish ministry to begin work as a Racial Equity and Reconciliation Advocate.  He is also an Implicit Bias Educator for MindBridge and a Board of Directors member\, and working partner with the non-profit Atlantic Black Box.  He is also the first Person of Color to be elected a Select Board Member of New Gloucester\, Maine. \nMade possible by generous funding from: First Parish Church (UCC)\, Brunswick\, The Eleanor Humes Haney Fund\, and The Religious Society of Friends\, New England Yearly Meeting Prejudice & Poverty Grant
