Wabanaki REACH Workshop: Decolonization and the Role of Faith Communities
Feb 28, March 14, and March 18 from 1-2:30 PM
Wabanaki REACH will be holding a three session workshop, "Decolonization and the Role of Faith Communities”, at First Parish Unitarian/Universalist Church in Portland via Zoom on three Sunday afternoons this winter.
This workshop is intended for people of faith who want to move toward living in just ways with the Indigenous peoples of this land, particularly with Wabanaki peoples whose ancestral home includes what is called the state of Maine. The sessions will explore the role of churches in the colonization of this country, learn about the harmful ongoing impacts of colonization on Wabanaki peoples, and identify strategies for repair and healing. This three-session online Zoom workshop is co-led by faith leaders and Wabanaki people and includes film, testimony, discussion, and an action/study plan for follow-up after the sessions.
It is important that those interested in attending the workshop be willing to commit to attending all three sessions as they build upon each other. The workshop is limited to 30 and the registration fee will be $20 which will be used to honor the work of truth and healing. (No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but you will still need to register in order to receive the Zoom link and attend). To register for this workshop (all 3 sessions) please connect with Marge Stockford by February 26 with your name, email and contact telephone number, she will provide further information as to payment. For further information, please contact Jake Kulaw or Barbara Brown.
