A conference on elder abuse for an ecumenical gathering of lay persons and clergy
We hope your congregation will send a team of two or three persons to this important event. The day will be led by Jessica Maurer, the Executive Director of the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and Denis Culley, Senior Staff Attorney, Legal Services for the Elderly.
Topics to be discussed include:
What is elder abuse?
How do we recognize it?
How do we talk to the victim?
What are our resources?
Following lunch, teams will meet to create an action plan for their faith community. Each group will be led by local professionals who work with the elderly. Participants will leave with a plan and a link to a web page for further discussion. They will be able to access the video of the keynote speakers to use in their communities.
